    Oh gosh, your video really helped me a lot. I am an introvert and public speaking or presentation is not my thing. My manager asked me to give a presentation to an audience this weekend. I am really overwhelmed thinking about how I would deliver the message in my non native language (English). But you're so right, people come to get information from me and all I have to do is to provide them a precise message. That's all.

    Thanks for the video. But you need to reduce the volume of the background music, and make the video to be more like a tutorial than a kind of flip-through or revision.

    Very informative video Michelle. I really like the idea of collecting photos of setups I like and finding some commonality between them. I also like that you’re not afraid to show people that your office space has some clutter. So many office videos remind me of that Italian Nona’s room that is for decoration only. Offices have stuff, and one of the things I’m struggling with in my redesign is how to manage that stuff while trying to make it look clean.

    • @michellehickeydesign
      @michellehickeydesign 7 місяців тому

      While I do strive to be a Nona (or whatever the aunt version is), yes, you've nailed it: clutter is a part of life. I've always found that its helpful to remove as much clutter as possible before starting. That alone can transform a space, even without adding anything new. Happy decorating!

Please excuse my ignorance, but if I don't have anybody subscribed to my newsletter yet who am I sending out my first newsletter to?

      Thanks for watching, David! I'm excited for you and your newsletter idea. An excellent question! I recommend asking a few family members and or friends to sign up as your first subscribers. It's also a great way to test things out, make sure your sign up forms work, and to take some of the pressure off of writing for a big crowd.

    Presenting in a school premises is my situation. But the thing is, there is no mic available in our classrooms. As a introvert, my voice is not audible to most of the students. How can I improve that?

  • @sl3102
    @sl3102 8 місяців тому

    But the thing is there's no part of being your self as an introvert that is compatible with public speaking. I can muster myself to do it but afterwards there's the mandatory self evaluation: was I being weird? Did I choose the right words? Was I too quiet? and the feeling that everybody thinks less of me now than before.

    I spent years listening to educational stuff on an earbud. Often, I'd zone out and be distracted, so it was just background noise, which is possibly similar to having a lawn mower in the background: i.e., noise (a stressor), the opposite of peace and quiet. Perhaps consider trying a float tank - just you and your thoughts and feelings. Good message.

    • @michellehickeydesign
      @michellehickeydesign 10 місяців тому

      Thanks for sharing your experience! It's amazing how noises can have such an affect on us. I'm sensitive to sounds, so you absolutely nailed it that things like a lawn mower can be a stressor. A float tank would definitely be a challenge, but I bet it would be cool to try!

    I struggled with public speaking all my life, but always managed to get throught it. Starting 15 years ago this fear started getting worse. It was little by little until i could could not speak at all, freezing like an opposum in the headlights. I can present to individuals now but not a group greater then 3.

    I liked your video and I love books as well. I have always loved the practice of the native American vision quest.they went up to a hill dug a hole fasted and stayed fir 4 days and nights in silence to receive a vision or chief definite aim in their life. They would paint a representation on a shield of what they were given so it was with them always This is very general but how powerful is this.imagine 4 hours without our phones let aline 4 days in the wild. I will deeply think and ask for my definite goal for the rest of my life ( 62 in august) I'm reading think and grow rich zgain and forgot all about the definition of purpose chapter 1 but now I'm ready to get it and lock it in.

      What a beautiful practice. I especially love the idea of painting on a shield to have a memory of your vision and aim. You are so right! Four hours of phone-free time would be such a power move. I may need to try that soon. :)

    I wake up at 5 AM for work. I say goodbye to my wife and daughter get to work where I spend eight hours having to socialize and talk to people and work with other people and then I go pick up my daughter and go home and about the same time my wife shows up at home. On the weekend it’s me keeping an eye on my daughter from morning to night. The only alone time I get is when I’m taking a crap. And since my daughter is a toddler, I barely get to do that and peace because she’s usually begging and crying right outside the door because she can’t see me. I’ve noticed for the last month or so I have had a very short fuse. I am so desperate to just have a few hours of alone time here and there. It’s unbelievable. I am so mentally and physically exhausted. It’s not even funny.

    Very interesting video, thank you very much. I also feel like a strong introvert. I feel like nothing gives me really extra/additional energy except maybe sports or sleeping. I enjoy a lot solitary activities like reading, watching videos, walking in nature or listening to podcasts for instance but If I do it for long a time I start also to feel tired too. So my guess would be that we have low energy to deal with, where activities are either neutral, low draining or highly draining ? Do other people have trouble to feel reenergize with any activity like me?

    • @michellehickeydesign
      @michellehickeydesign Рік тому

      That's so interesting! I'm wondering if it might be helpful to track and be mindful about which activities drain you the most, and also how long you're able to engage before losing energy. I think that the most important thing to remember is that there is no right and wrong. Everyone is different, and there are so many factors at play. 🫶

    Soooooo good, Michelle! Loved hearing the phone-free times you’re working into your day. I’ve done the same with mealtimes and car times being times of presence with who I’m with or with God. It’s been so good for my soul. And I’m looking forward to a week on vacation in the woods this summer where we will intentionally unplug and not check any socials or email… only texts to say “let’s meet up for ice cream after the boat ride.” Ha ha. But that detox week always helps loosen the grip my phone had over me. And encourages me to pick it up with more intention rather than just because I’m bored or can’t handle the silence. Thanks for sharing this!

    I'm an extrovert in the body of an introvert which makes things complicated, I like to socialize and hangout with people all the time, but my body is constantly fighting against it as I feel both physically and mentally exhausted, pushing it helps a lot but once I feel burnout I don't know how to recover energy in an efficient way ;

    • @michellehickeydesign
      @michellehickeydesign Рік тому

      How interesting! What I think is most important here is that you have an awareness of your limits (even if/when you make the choice to push past it). Might it be helpful to find creative ways to "be social" but in shorter spurts, or perhaps even in a less stimulating environment? Hope you can experiment and make it a fun exploration!
